The horizontally-opposed configuration of the Subaru BOXER engine places the pistons opposite each other, for a lower, flatter profile than other engine types. This gives the engine, and therefore the overall vehicle, a lower centre of gravity and better sense of balance. Further, the pistons opposing movements inherently counteract each other, naturally helping to reduce vibration.

The turbo-charged engine of the WRX STI delivers stunning performance throughout the rev range. However, unlike other cars, it's the acceleration at low to medium speeds that you will find most satisfying. With 407 Nm of torque this engine delivers jaw-dropping, adrenalin pumping power. Dual-active Valve control improves exhaust and combustion performance and a larger intercooler improves engine efficiency. A transverse-mounted high-capacity muffler and four pipe exhaust system give engine power of 300PS.

It's paired with SI Drive (Subaru Intelligent Drive) which electronically alters how the engine operates by offering Sport, Intelligent and Sport Sharp modes.
