On SE and SE Lux Premium models, the crystal clear 4.3-inch LCD screen, located centrally in the instrument panel, has a choice of displays which can be selected using convenient buttons on the steering wheel. The screens include: Fuel Economy, Eco- evaluation, active safety, AWD status, clock, outside temperature and self check. On petrol models with the Auto Start Stop System, the display shows length of time the engine is stopped and cumulative length of time the engine is stopped (total and current trip).

Few cars in this class deliver the pure spontaneity of Subaru XV. That’s thanks to the horizontally- opposed Subaru Boxer engine, which places pistons 180 degrees apart for a lower, flatter profile compared with other layouts. This gives the powerplant—and by extension the whole car—a lower centre of gravity and more balanced weight distribution. On top of that, the pistons’ opposing movements counteract each other, which naturally reduces vibration and makes for smoother power delivery.

Standard on every Subaru XV, the Vehicle Dynamics Control System monitors and analyses whether the car is going exactly where you intend it to, using a battery of sophisticated sensors. If the XV nears the limits of stability while cornering or avoiding an obstacle, the AWD torque distribution, engine output and brakes at each wheel automatically adjust to keep the vehicle on course.
Many of the same features that make the Subaru XV a thrill to drive also help keep you out of harm’s way. The stable, responsive handling of its Symmetrical AWD is enhanced by the low centre of gravity of its Subaru Boxer engine. Combined with the standard Vehicle Dynamics Control System, surefooted suspension, anti-lock brakes and responsive steering, you’re always in control even if you have to take sudden evasive action.
Driver and passenger protection is a high priority in every element of the Subaru XV – from major features such as seats, to the smaller details like the breakaway pedals. Its energy- absorbing body structure is strengthened with high tensile-strength steel in critical areas, minimising the impact force that can reach the cabin, and increasing bending stiffness. There’s also a whole range of advanced interior safety features to help protect occupants directly.
Made for the urban landscape, the Subaru XV responsibly provides a high level of pedestrian protection. Shock-absorbing space between bonnet and engine helps reduce pedestrian injury if an accident were to happen, as do an energy-absorbing front bumper and specially designed area around the windscreen wipers.

With powerful disc brakes at every wheel, the Subaru XV has braking response that’s put it in a class of its own. The standard 4-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is matched with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, which optimises front/rear braking pressure when the vehicle is loaded. In emergency braking, the Subaru XV also uses brake assist, which delivers higher levels of braking force when the pedal is used hard or suddenly. Finally, there’s brake override, which lets you to come safely to a stop even if the accelerator is being used at the same time.
These strengthen the passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars and floor. This helps divert and dissipate impact energy away from people in a collision. The frames for the Subaru XV feature high-tensile steel designs that are strong and rigid, yet still lighter in weight.
Height-adjustable front seatbelts feature pretensioners to hold passengers firmly in place. The Subaru XV also has whiplash-reducing front seats and energy- absorbing head restraints that can better help protect front occupants from injury during a rear collision. Even the rear seats have been specially designed for protection, with the seating position moved back to reduce the effects of side impacts. Front, front-side and curtain SRS airbags are now standard. New knee SRS airbags are also standard, which greatly increases protection of the driver’s lower extremities in frontal impacts. Meanwhile, tether and ISO-FIX anchors – which don’t compromise luggage room – make it easy to install compatible child safety seats.
