This summer, Subaru UK teamed up with English Heritage in an exciting partnership designed to support some of England’s most iconic historical sites, bringing Subaru's team spirit to an inspiring day of volunteering at Kenilworth Castle. A dedicated team of Subaru employees joined the Garden’s Supervisor at the English Heritage site for a day of hands-on gardening and grounds maintenance, enhancing one of England’s most popular historical destinations.
In spring 2024, Subaru UK began a partnership with English Heritage, focusing on the charity’s Legendary Summer events series, which celebrated history through ‘Legendary Jousts’ and ‘Knights Tournaments’ at sites like Kenilworth Castle and Eltham Palace. The series brought history to life for visitors of all ages, with re-enactments and immersive experiences hosted at these treasured sites.
Kenilworth Castle, managed by English Heritage, is one of over 420 sites the organisation conserves and protects. This Midlands landmark welcomes over 120,000 visitors each year, adding rich historical value to the area. Subaru UK, as part of International Motors Ltd (IML), recently expanded its volunteering program, empowering every employee to dedicate time to charitable causes. With Kenilworth Castle located close to Subaru’s Head Office near Birmingham, the team saw this as a perfect opportunity to give back to the community through meaningful work.
Lyndsey Flood, Head of Marketing at Subaru UK & Ireland, shared her thoughts on the partnership: “Our partnership with English Heritage enables us to play a role in safeguarding these treasured sites for future generations to enjoy. When the opportunity arose to volunteer at Kenilworth Castle, the Subaru UK team jumped at the chance. Spending the day working with Philip, Head Gardener, in the Elizabethan Garden, pruning bushes and scarifying the lawn, was a rewarding experience and a meaningful way for us to give back to the community. We look forward to continuing our support for English Heritage and their invaluable work in protecting our nation’s heritage.”
The experience resonated deeply with Subaru’s team members, allowing them to connect directly with the history and beauty of Kenilworth Castle. Matt Collier, Corporate Partnerships Manager at English Heritage, highlighted the importance of Subaru’s involvement, noting, “We were delighted that the team at Subaru UK opted to further support English Heritage by volunteering for the day with Phillip and the Gardens Team at Kenilworth Castle. Our teams work tirelessly all year round to ensure our sites remain safe, and open for our visitors to enjoy, and volunteering is a vital contribution to this effort. Heritage belongs to everyone, and our mission is to share the exciting and diverse stories of England with all. Subaru UK have made an invaluable contribution in helping us on this journey.”
With such a successful day of volunteering under their belt, Subaru UK is excited to continue its partnership with English Heritage, supporting the charity’s mission of connecting people to England’s rich heritage and preserving history for future generations to discover.
