The Subaru Outback is everything any discerning driver could want in a crossover SUV. It’s tough, rugged and ready for any adventure.
Launching in the UK on 27th May 2021, the Outback is predicted to quickly become Subaru’s best-selling model – and with good reason.
It turns heads with sleek lines and a sporty stance, and is the most technologically advanced, luxurious and safest Subaru yet.
Always exploring new frontiers
Subaru’s flagship vehicle and the longest running model in the Subaru range, Outback has always been a pioneer. When it launched in 1995, it created a new automotive segment – the crossover SUV, combining the attributes of both a refined passenger car and a very capable SUV.
This 6th generation Outback has evolved over 25 years to offer outstanding levels of safety, comfort, practicality, capability and drivability.
Ever popular within the Subaru range, Outback is cherished by on- and off-road drivers around the world, who appreciate the superb reliability, performance and protection this vehicle offers.
Re-designed from the ground up
A little longer and wider than the outgoing model – to provide additional comfort for driver and passengers alike, plus even more room for cargo – the Subaru Outback is available from £33,995 in three trim levels: Limited, Field and Touring. As you’d expect with a Subaru, each model variant comes with an impressive range of advanced features, all fitted as standard.
The Outback is the first of its kind to be built on the Subaru Global Platform. This provides superior protection as well as improved handling and ride quality – on all types of terrain.
Engineered to deliver confidence in every aspect of the driving experience, the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) furthers Subaru’s commitment to building the safest cars on the road.
Building the Outback on the SGP ensures class-leading passenger safety, thanks to an increase in the amount of high-tensile steel panel materials used to create a lighter body. Protection in frontal, side and rear end collisions is also improved by over 40%, as the design of the SGP allows the frame structure to absorb energy more efficiently.
Outback’s body has been substantially strengthened with a new structural frame (full inner frame structure) and additional beams and sub frames, further enhancing the world's top-level collision safety performance, including the Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) crash test.
Exceptional all-round safety features
The safest Outback ever built, the new model offers all-around protection for its driver and passengers, as well as other road users. This includes everything from an optimal driving position, window heights, wing mirror placements and carefully arranged pillars to provide excellent visibility in all directions to an array of world-class, advanced safety technologies.
As with every model in the Subaru range, the Outback boasts generous equipment fitted as standard across all three trim levels – so you can expect premium safety protection, plus advanced drivability technologies, infotainment options and comfort considerations to be included in the entry level price.
Outback’s industry-leading safety systems include the latest driver assistance and collision avoidance technology. Its next-generation EyeSight Driver Assist technology, Subaru’s cutting-edge stereo camera prevention collision system, now features nearly twice the field of vision as previous models.
New and improved EyeSight features include Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering Function, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Speed Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Limiter, Lane Sway and Departure Warning (with steering wheel vibration alert), Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Autonomous Emergency Steering and Pre-Collision Braking System with Throttle Management for expanded support for collision avoidance at junctions and crossroads.
Another brand new technology for Outback is Subaru’s Driver Monitoring System, which complements existing safety technologies and alerts the driver if they are distracted or feeling fatigued.
Reverse Automatic Braking is also a new safety feature fitted as standard for the Outback. This helps drivers avoid collisions when reversing and mitigates the damage in the event of any collision.
Additional fitted-as-standard safety equipment includes Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection and Multi-View Monitors (Front, Rear and Side), available with Touring spec, for a safer drive that reduces vehicle blind spots.
Yet to be tested by NCAP, we expect the Outback to be awarded the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP Safety Rating received by its predecessor when the results are released in September this year.
All-wheel capability for confidence in all conditions
The Outback also leads the way when it comes to driveability.
Whatever the weather or traffic conditions, and wherever you’re heading, a multitude of anti-fatigue features will help you feel refreshed when you arrive. Thanks to special fatigue-reducing front seats and its outstanding straight-line stability, which requires minimum levels of steering correction, Outback is one of the least tiring cars to drive – on any road (or track) surface.
The 2.5L petrol Boxer engine delivers exceptional performance for every requirement. It also features 90% new components for better fuel efficiency and power.
As with every Subaru crossover or SUV, Outback comes with always-on Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) as standard. Permanent SAWD constantly sends power to the wheels with most traction to deliver optimum grip and control in all weather and road conditions. Combined with the Boxer engine, a low centre of gravity and carefully balanced weight distribution, this ensures impressive handling and poise at all times.
Always-on AWD is obviously a real advantage off-road too. And if you suddenly find yourself facing a steep gravel descent or some other form of extreme off-road challenge, this athletic crossover will take that in its stride – with ease and comfort to spare. Simply select X-MODE with Hill Descent Control and Outback will manage the power, braking and SAWD system for you – so all you need to do is steer.
Back in more civilised conditions, you can use Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) to adapt the way that Outback handles, selecting engine and transmission characteristics to suit your preferred driving style. Sport Mode is well-suited for all-round conditions with its immediate acceleration – and is also perfect for enhancing your enjoyment of winding roads. Offering gentle power delivery, Intelligent Mode is ideal for cruising around town, covering long distances or achieving optimum fuel economy. It also provides flexible control in the rain or on snowy roads.
Ready when you are
With an impressive 213mm ground clearance, the Outback is always ready to tackle any terrain.
Its towing capacity – 2,000kg braked and 750kg unbraked – means it’s also a great choice for anyone looking to tow a caravan or trailer.
Whatever your specific needs when it comes to everyday drives and weekend getaways, Outback offers something for everyone. The Nappa leather trim available on the Outback Touring model lends a luxurious feel to every excursion, while the Field model offers practical and durable water-repellent leather (synthetic) seats, perfect for outdoor adventures.
Meanwhile, every family member will love the high-resolution 11.6” information and entertainment touchscreen, which offers a tablet-like user experience and makes even the most mundane of outings more comfortable and enjoyable.
With 522L of boot space, there’s plenty of room for all your gear, and a hands-free power tailgate and pop-up tonneau cover makes for easy loading and unloading. The Field and Touring models also offer built-in roof rails with integrated crossbars, which provide additional versatility for carrying sports equipment like kayaks, bikes or skis, and attaching cargo carriers – and fold away when not in use.
Whatever you want from life, Outback is ready when you are.
